Deadly Beauty- Datura Flower

This is the beautiful Datura stramonium flower, also known as Jimsonweed or Angel's Trumpet. It is a common garden flower from the Nightshade family. I grew this one from seed.

All parts of the plant including the leaves, fruit, and flowers are poisonous and contain the hallucinogens atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine. This plant and its relations Belladonna, Henbane, and Mandrake have a long ethnobotanical history around the world. Although it has been used recreationally in some cultures, the dosage required for effect and the lethal dosage are too similar to make its use safe.

The flowers smell beautiful but the leaves, when irritated, produce a fowl weedy smell.
